The new line of toys for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story are getting their closeup thanks to a group of Star Wars superfans chosen to create a series of four stop motion animated shorts to show off the line. The first short shows Jyn Erso attempting to obtain key instructions to build the LEGO Death Star the Empire has lost … with the evil force sending out agents of “all shapes and sizes” (i.e. different toys) to go find them. Predictably, things don’t exactly go smoothly.
The #GoRogue stop motion series shows toys from Hasbro, LEGO, JAKKS Pacific, Mattel, Funko and Disney Store. The series is really a labor of love, with it taking the artists about ten hours for just 6 seconds of video. The series features 40 toys, 300 shots and 20,000 LEGO bricks.
Fans who want to get in on the action are also getting the opportunity to submit their own shorts at StarWars.com/GoRogue, with a special contest for kids 8-12 at Disney.com/MyRogueStory. The contest launches Sept. 30, and winners will be invited to a Rogue One screening at Lucasfilm in San Francisco.
The toys will be available for purchase on Sept. 30, with Rogue One hitting theaters Dec. 16.
