Protagonist Pictures will handle international sales at the market beginning next week.
Narcos star Boyd Holbrook has signed on to head up Juan Cabral’s Two/One for Bliss Media, which is fully financing the film.
Two/One explores the concept that while we sleep in one place, we are awake somewhere else. Kaden is a world-class ski jumper in Whistler, Canada, unexpectedly presented with the chance of reconnecting with his teenage sweetheart. Khai is a corporate executive in Shanghai, China, faced with the fact that the girl he fantasizes about on the internet has just started working in his office. The two men go about their lives, without knowing that they are connected. When one is awake, the other is asleep. They dream each other. They are, in some strange way, the same person. The question is what happens if they were ever to meet. Holbrook will play both men.
Principal photography is scheduled to begin in Vancouver and Shanghai in the fourth quarter of this year.
Bliss’ Wei Han (Jackie, Kings) is producing alongside RedRum Films’ Chris Clark (All the Money in the World, Legend), Flora Fernandez Marengo (Calvary, War on Everyone) and South Creek Pictures’ Dave Valleau. Protagonist Pictures will handle international sales, which will kick off next week in Cannes. CAA arranged the financing and is representing domestic rights. Bliss will handle Chinese distribution rights.
“The script is packed with the potential to become a deeply moving story about relationships in a globalized world,” Han said in a statement. “We want to make a radical film that generates buzz with the ability to cross over and connect universally. This is a fresh, striking and hypnotizing film, which doesn’t come around often.”
Added Protagonist CEO Mike Goodridge: “Protagonist is always looking for films that will attract audiences in a world where there is so much competition from other media, and Two/One is just that special project. Juan Cabral is a visionary and his first feature promises to be visually stunning, dramatically riveting and a fascinating exploration of the globalized world. We couldn’t be more excited to be working with Bliss Media and our old friends Chris Clark and Flora Fernandez Marengo on this unique film.”
Cabral is an Argentine commercials director known for his innovative ad campaigns for the likes of Cadbury. Throughout his career, he has nabbed more than 20 Cannes Lions, two Cannes Grand Prix and a nomination for outstanding directorial achievement in commercials by the DGA in 2016.
Holbrook, whose film credits include Logan and Gone Girl, will next be seen in Shane Black’s The Predator, which is currently in production.
Cabral and Holbrook are both repped by CAA.
Bliss recently handled the Chinese distribution of Mel Gibson’s Oscar-nominated film Hacksaw Ridge and executive produced Pablo Larraín’s Jackie, starring Natalie Portman. The company’s upcoming slate includes Charles Martin’s S.M.A.R.T. Chase, starring Orlando Bloom, and Deniz Gamze Ergüven’s Kings, headed up by Daniel Craig and Halle Berry.
